Spiral has long been the meeting place of wandering souls in the shady back streets of Tokyo’s Aoyama district. Even better, the building, completed in 1985 by architect Fumihiko Maki, has become the headquarters of cultural life in Tokyo.

An invitation to wander freely, the Spiral Independent Creators Festival (SICF) traditionally takes place during the Golden Week, a period of back-to-back bank holidays in Japan. This most recent nineteenth edition took place this year between April 29 and May 6, proving the occasion to explore the different practices of 172 artisans and craftspersons.
