Yoshihiro Makino Captures the Magic of New Mexico

In a series of images shot in New Mexico, Yoshishiro Makino depicts vast expanses of desert, caught on one particularly magical day. The land-locked American state, known for its arid climate and sprawling deserts, is most frequently photographed for its warm colour palette with its tawny coloured houses, its dry, green vegetation of its deep pink sunsets.
With New Mexico White Sands, Yoshihiro Makino, the Japanese, LA-based photographer shines a new light on the region, capturing it in mid-winter in the gypsum. His images are full of cold, vibrant colours, a landscape of blue and white.
The photographer concentrates principally on texture, paying attention of the ridges drawn on the ground, the trees that stand apart from the landscape, and the arcs that are mirrored between the white mountains and the white dunes. It is a simple and poetic take on an ancient landscape.
