While the month of July in Paris rarely resembles that of the humid heat of the Japanese summer, it will nonetheless bare witness to a period of cultural happenings under the banner Japonismes 2018: Resonating Souls. Born of a Franco-Japanese initiative, the event will celebrate the hundred sixtieth anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Among the highlights, it is worth mentioning Throne, a monumental installation under the pyramid at the Louvre, created by sculptor Kohei Nawa; Gagakua dance piece by the Reigakusha Gagaku Ensemble and the dancer Kaiji Moriyama; as well as an adaptation of Haruki Murakami’s debut novel Kafka on the Shore by Yukio Ninagawa at the Théâtre national de la Colline. A number of events attached to Japonismes 2018: Resonating Souls programme will take place across France from July 2018 until February 2019.

Without any strict theme or clear-cut designations of disciplines, this event showcases Japanese culture in all its diversity.
