Buddhist monk Gyosen Asakura, worried by the drop in attendance at his temple in Fukui Prefecture, has taken a gamble. To attract the younger generation, this former DJ has decided to launch techno Buddhist ceremonies, accompanied by video mapping. Using sound and video equipment he purchased himself, he sets up projectors in the place of worship and gets behind the turntable. The public therefore participate in a sound and light show, where sutras are recited by electronic voices. The show, entitled ‘The lights of Sukhavati, the land of bliss’, is already a hit with the new generation and even the older worshippers, who are thrilled to see their faith in a new light.
