The mysterious first images of a short film, shot in Tokyo with Eric Wareheim (Master of None)
Japanese production company Pen Films and French director Jean-Baptiste Braud just released a preview of the short film In the Still Night, featuring ‘king of awkward US comedy’ Eric Wareheim (Netflix’s Master of None, Tim and Eric). A 15-minutes drama shot in Tokyo, In the Still Night explores a darker side of Eric’s talent.
Matthew Hyla (Eric Wareheim), an American art curator staying in a hotel in Tokyo, is organizing a photography exhibition in the building. Hurt and distracted by a recent breakup, and left disorientated by his very limited understanding of Japanese, Matthew gets lost in the corridors lined with Japanese artworks.
Now on his own, he wanders broken-hearted through this maze and allows himself to be carried away by daydreams. That is, until he has a surreal encounter.
The film, a French-Japanese-American short movie where glances and silences are just as important as words, is soon to be released.
