Kungyokudo, Tokyo’s Chicest Incense

© Kungyokudo
The oldest incense suppliers in Japan, Kungyokudo, have just opened a store in Tokyo. Located in the Kitte building, refurbished by Kengo Kuma in 2013, the space has since become a significant high-end shopping mall.
The antithesis of the ancient apocathery that one might imagine, their new space is brand spanking new, it is modern and it is classy. Inside you’ll find a mixture of traditional incense as well as contemporary aromatherapy products such as oils, soap and candles. There is also a studio where visitors to the store are able to create small traditional perfumed sacks called nioi bukuro. The ultimate educational experience in incense.
