Rina Sawayama Is Back With a New Single ‘Flicker’

Rina Sawayama is a Japanese singer and model based in London. A true neo-pop star, she recently unveiled ‘Flicker’, her brand new single produced with Clarence Clarity, a long-time collaborator.
She has spoken about having suffered a great deal at school when her teachers mispronounced her last name, thus unwittingly excluding her and separating her from her classmates. “When I was writing ‘Flicker’ I was thinking how our name shapes our experience in life and identities us in a deeper way than we realise,” she told Dazed magazine.
The clip, with a pop, futuristic aesthetic, is immediately emblematic of the artist’s childlike, colorful and offbeat universe. The video contrasts with the strength of words of the young woman which continue to translate some persisting darkness. Both melancholic and catchy, ‘Flicker’ follows the singer’s two previous singles, ‘Cherry’ and ‘Valentine’s (What’s It Gonna Be)’. Rumours are a flutter that an announcement for the release of an album during 2019 is immanent.
