‘The Party Bus’, Shiseido Latest and Most Striking Film
Shiseido are making a splash with their latest film The Party Bus which lasts just 3 minutes and 30 seconds. They advocate values of freedom and choice by devoting this short film to the relationship between make-up and self-expression. Directed by Show Yanagisawa, the film features Princess Kaguya (from a 10th-century Japanese folk tale) played by model Elena An, her lover Dracula, performed by the dancer ENDo, and a mysterious samurai, played by model Rina Fukushi.
The characters attend a party organised in a bus, where indecision dominates for Princess Kaguya who struggles to choose between two potential suitors. Shiseido imagines the story of a love triangle where Kaguya wanders disconcerted and confused by her feelings. The young woman manages to listen to her heart despite the noise and rushes into the arms of Rina Fukushi.
The passionate red on the lips of both lovers then comes to life and reveals an animated scene played out across on their respective faces, thus mixing fantasy and fiction. The film depicts an intimate and suspended moment that stages personal courage and self-acceptance by making makeup a key player in freedom of expression.
