Oji Masanori Beautifies the Mundane

©Oji Masanori
Trained as a designer and an architect, Oji Masanori has a special interest in the objects of our daily life: cutlery, glasses, lamps or simple self-adhesive wall hooks. His creations– in leather, brass, solid wood and occasionally paper– are made to be interacted with and above all, to last. He restores the inherent nobility to these objects that we use so often, as we tend to forget their very existence.
Hailing from Hiroshima and a specialist in industrial design, Masanori creates pieces that exude solidity without appearing heavy; he works with the textures of his materials to make them seem as light as possible. Amongst his creations, brass lampshades, brooms with handles in the shape of walking sticks, beautiful chopping boards, and impeccably designed sellotape dispensers all stand out; not only for their aesthetic value and functionality, but equally for their apparent sturdiness.
