On Demand Roasted Tea Leaves at Maruzen Tea Roastery

LUCY ALTER DESIGN, inc.
In this immaculately white café, there are just two choices, ice cream or beverages, all of them made from tea. The clue to their unique selling point is in the name, the café roasts its tea leaves on site, offers a range of different degrees of roasting—including drinking the leaves untouched.
From gyokuro, a 80°C roasting process, to the 200°C dark roasted, there are five different temperature points on offer 80 – 100 – 130 – 160 and 200. The taste varies from sweet and sugary for lower temperatures, to stronger more chocolatey flavours for the hotter temperatures. The colours vary too, from light green to dark brown.
