Senchado in Tokyo, Japan’s Most Innovative Tea Boutique

LUCY ALTER DESIGN, inc.
Tokyo Saryo, the first tea bar to serve drip tea, has now opened a store, Senchado. Its specialty? Sencha, Japan’s most popular tea.
Senchado has decided to go modern. First off, a unique algorithm is used to class teas according to their flavours and their strengths. A colour is then attributed to reflect its flavour. Equally important is their teapots. Traditionally in Japan a kyusu is used, but in Senchado the underpinning concept is simplicity, the Toumei Kyusu is a brand new transparent teapot which breaks with the 260 year old traditions of Japan’s ingrained tea culture.
