ARTnSHELTER a Gallery Where You Can Lay Your Head

Located in a residential area of Tokyo, six minutes from Shinagawa, ARTnSHELTER opened its doors in 2015. This concept hostel is the brainchild of Mr. Kanomata, a former London student who wanted to mix the hotel industry with the artistic field. The space is a sort of gigantic live-in gallery, exhibiting a wide variety of international artists like the Singaporean street artist Zon or the painter Yazawa Hideki. This versatile space also exhibits photography, painting, graffiti or digital art.
ARTnSHELTER is spread across two floors. The first floor acts as a reception, bar and gallery in its own right, where events can also be organised. Artists have the freedom to inhabit the place as they wish. The bar, meanwhile, has become a real place of creativity, where artists can meet and convene, says the owner.
On the second floor are the different rooms of the hotel. In summer, barbecues are on offer for guests keen to integrate themselves into the fabric of the space.
