Benesse House, the Hotel-Museum on Naoshima Island

Situated on the arty island of Naoshima, Benesse House is both a museum and hotel. This holiday destination is the ideal spot for visitors in search of art, nature and architecture.
Opened in 1992, the hotel is a haven of peace with a simple design. The work of the master of Japanese architecture, Tadao Ando, the building blends in perfectly with its surroundings, that is the blue of the Seto Inland Sea, with its raw materials such as concrete, glass and wood. The result is elegant and minimalist, without compromising on comfort.
This arty oasis is divided into four parts: the Museum, the Park, the Beach and the Oval. The six rooms in the Oval offer a unique aesthetic, with original works of art and a peaceful sea view out of the large bay windows which catch the soft light of Naoshima. Not forgetting the architectural gem that is the indoor oval-shaped swimming pool.
The Park resort was built facing the Shikoku mountains and houses high-end Japanese and French restaurants. The rooms in the Beach resort all face the sea and each has its own private terrace.
To ensure that each guest is able to take full advantage of this extraordinary experience, the hotel offers them direct, privileged access to the museum’s galleries so they can connect with the art works from morning to night, even outside the normal opening hours.
