Pigment, an Out of the Ordinary Art Supplies Store

©PIGMENT TOKYO
It is in Tokyo, that Pigment, a unique boutique, opened in the Shinagawa district several years ago. Today, it has become a site of pilgrimage for those seeking quality art equipment. With more than 4200 pigments, nearly 200 antique ink sticks and about fifty animal glues, Pigment also offers ink stones, washi paper, frames and canvases.
A real museum, Pigment is the work of the architect Kengo Kuma. The entire interior of the building was designed based on organic materials. An impressive architectural work, Pigment is housed beneath an undulating ceiling covered with bamboo boards, which gives way to impressive visual results that subtly echo the movements of brush strokes.
Beyond the multitude of products, as well as impressive interior design, what differentiates Pigment from other existing stores is undoubtedly its concept. The store is positioned as a creative laboratory which hopes to pass on knowledge to younger generations. In order to make this work several experts have been recruited to run workshops devoted to the specific use of their materials.
