Contemporary art, architecture and nature are all one and the same in Setouchi, leading you into the unknown. Slotted between Honshu and Shikoku, the two main islands of the archipelago, the inland sea of Seto hides a secrete trove of islands, three hundreds in total, each landscape more magnificent than the next.

It is one of the most reputed regions for art in Japan, with a triennial arts festival which takes place across twelve islands simultaneously. The event has helped increase tourism in the area, all the while preserving its traditional charm. Here, beauty and nature are as important as the works that sit among them; it is a mode of exhibiting that is becoming more and more rare. Now is the time to go, before it gets too busy!
