The Portrait of an Island: BULL SUMO
Among the Amami Islands of Kagoshima Prefecture is an island that’s expected to become a world heritage site. This island has a long history of bullfighting. Unlike the bullfights of Europe, here on Tokunoshima bovine and human team together to take on their opponents.
The handlers spend every moment they can with the bulls, developing a close relationship. The title matches, held a few times a year, fill the island with an air of excitement. This is the story of Mamoru Higashida championship title holder for the mini-lightweight class.
